Our solution design is a light milling machine using arduino. It is portable and easy-to-use and can produce prototypes quickly. It can be deconstructed and reconstructed easily, giving it extra portability and user-friendliness. It is constructed using 4 supports, 3 rail guides, a small drill, 3 servo motors, 3 gears, belts and a cardboard base.
The material used for prototyping is expanded polyethylene foam. It is cheap and soft so it can be cut easily.
However, our machine has some limitations. A small drill is used so it is quite brittle. However, our prototyping material is soft so it is not a big issue as of now. The supporting PVC pipes are shaky so it will affect drill precision and structural integrity.
Take a look at the machine as shown on the left, what do you think?
